Description

Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu is home to the Kanjeevaram saree, known for its weight, lustre and bold contrast borders. This one is woven in pure mulberry silk with a korvai border: in the korvai technique the border is woven in its own colour and interlocked with the body of the saree, so the join is part of the weave rather than stitched on.

The zari border and brocade body give the drape a rich, structured fall. In mustard gold or fuchsia pink, it is a saree for the wedding itself, a reception, or a festival such as Diwali or Pongal.
